Arctic cultures

Young and old can go canoeing in a kayak during the Tonnerres de Brest 2012. In the middle of the ice floes of the far North, discover the life of the Arctic peoples... and see the effects of climate change!

On the shores of the Arctic seas, the kayak is the main tool used by the population.

It is used to move around, eat, live, or even survive; Eskimo in short life.
From generation to generation, the kayak is the tool for learning, a means of discovering, assuming and passing down the natural and cultural Arctic heritage.

With this light craft the Tonnerres de Brest 2012 will let you discover the life of the Arctic peoples and the changes brought about by climate change. You can go round the North Pole with just a paddle...

Construct a kayak, write in Inuit and sail with the polar explorers.

Assembled in a yurt, the children will become real Inuits: an introduction to the Inuit writings of the Canadian far North, a workshop of tales and games, a film on Arctic fauna, an exhibition of photos of the bestiary of the far North...

Teenagers and adults will also have their yurt, to learn about Inuit arts and crafts or the traditions of shamanism...

In the open air, everyone will be able to watch traditional kayaks (BaidarkaCarquitUmiak) and paddles being built from scratch.

Lastly, courtesy of the French federation of canoeing and kayaks, you will have the privilege of embarking on a kayak for an outing or race out at sea...
