A founding partner of the maritime festivals, the departmental council supports a major event for recognition by the general public of this distinctive feature.
At times aggressive, often nourishing, harbouring dreams of discovering far-off horizons and unknown lands, the sea has always imbued culture and ways of life, shaped the shores, inspired poets, painters or novelists. It has forced us to build defensive, protective and access structures. And naturally it irrigates the economy.
Even now we still need to know the sea better, to preserve its resources, measure climate change and draw new sources of energy from it. The maritime festivals of Brest contribute to disseminating such knowledge and the image of an innovative and ambitious department.
